Thank you so much Anne! I need to catch up on my reading as well- so many great poets, so little time. I am glad to hear that you are on the mend.

It's wonderful to be able to keep up with everyone so easily now. My parents raised me on Simon and Garfunkel. I think my mother probably wore that record out. I often use songs as poem sparks. This particular poem took form probably four years ago, the first strophe anyway. It's odd how the creative process works like that- the puzzle pieces fall into place after time and distance- suddenly the right words appear with clarity that was so elusive for a long time.

Best wishes and I hope you are gearing up for April! Spring, flowers, planting, birdsong, and NaPoWriMo. It's a bit masochistic but I get great material out of it.

Happy March!

Laura - I think this is a haunting and wonderful poem. Thank you for posting it! Also, I laughed when I saw that you posted a link to "The Sounds of Silence." I have the CD set of Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits, and was singing along to that one just yesterday.
We were off for Spring Break this past week, and I spent it recovering from the flu and a sinus infection --- so I also spent it reading the poetry of my present students, reading about poetry, and catching up on my own blog, and on reading the blogs of others.

Best wishes from Anne
